Why China to be not up to par

Why Australia and not other countries: While researching for postgraduate study in USA, UK, Canada, Australia, China and India, I found out the quality of education in India and China to be not up to par as they are still developing nations whereas Canada has a really unfavorable cold weather. While universities in UK like WMG University of Warwick, Coventry, CITY, University of London etc. do have Health Management courses, their duration of course is only one year, which is not accredited by Nepal Government as a Master’s Level Course. Similarly, living expenses and university fees in USA are far more expensive than Australian universities, i.e. Health Management course in Stony Brook University, New York costs US$44,420 /year, Vanderbilt University, Nashville costs US$47,950 year etc. All these factors led me to choose Australia for my further education. Australia has also been the most sought-after countries for international students in recent times. Globally recognized degrees and multicultural friendly population make Australia the most popular choice among international students. The Education Service for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act 2000 establishes legislative requirements and standards for the quality assurance of education and training institution offering courses to international students in Australia on a student visa. Australian student visa holders can also benefit from Australian law that ensures quality of education as well as Tuition Protection Service (TPS) and support services when needed. Moreover CRICOS registered education institution has to meet the standards set by Australian law ensuring quality education service for all international students. Why WSU: Among the different universities offering postgraduate degree in Health Science related courses in Australia like Western Sydney University (WSU), Sydney, Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Brisbane, University of New South Wales (UNSW), Kensington, University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Griffith University, Brisbane etc. I found Western Sydney University to be the best. The course fee for QUT was more expensive (i.e. AU$ 30,700 /year) compared to that of WSU (AU$ 26,000 /year) whereas the course duration in UNSW, UTS and Griffith University was less than two years (i.e. 78 weeks). WSU is situated in Sydney and has several campuses in Bankstown, Blacktown, Campbelltown, Hawkesbury, Lithgow, Parramatta, Penrith. WSU also holds some great rankings in global education rankings. According to Times Higher Education University Ranking, WSU is among the top 2% universities in the world and ranks in the 79th position among universities under 50 years old. It has also been awarded a five QS star ranking by QS World University Rankings in 2018 for its teaching and other facilities and has a four star ranking for employability as well. It’s also the first university to provide free digital textbooks for its students commencing in 2018.  Furthermore WSU’s location i.e. Sydney is one of the top ten most livable cities in the world according to Mercer Quality of Living Survey. It has all the facilities that a student can ask for  like state-of-the-art classrooms, libraries, easy access to transportation, friendly and safe environment, to name a few. It is also the state capital of New South Wales and the most populous multi-cultural city of Australia.Masters of Health Science (Health Services Management) course available in WSU ( CRICOS code 064020M) is a two year program offered in Parramatta Campus, Victoria Road, NSW, Australia. This course includes core units like Public Health, Policy and Safety, Health Workforce Planning, Health Services and Facilities Planning, Health Financial Management, Organisational Governance and Performance Management, Epidemiology and Biostatistics and eight alternate units that can be chosen like Occupational Health Management, Communicable Diseases, Surveillance and Disaster Planning, Leadership for Quality and Safety in Health Care, A Global Perspectives on Social Determinants of Health among others. Why Masters of Health Science (Health Services Management): Healthcare industry is constantly developing in Nepal and skilled manpower has greater potential in health industry compared to any other industry in the current economy of Nepal. Among different career options in healthcare industry, Health Service Management as a career has been recently developed and is gradually growing. At the moment most of the Nepalese healthcare services are managed by MBA Graduates or Doctors. This, however, is not their area of expertise and can lead to poor management of the institution. Health Service Management and Laboratory Science are both health related subjects and having more than three years of professional experience in a pathology department of a hospital, I’m familiar with the current health conditions and trends in Nepal; what I lack now is the skills for properly managing a laboratory/health institution and an in depth epidemiological knowledge for my career growth in health service sector which can be gained from this course. For this reason I’m seeking for an admission in Master of Health Science with specialization in Health Service Management which will allow me to gain valuable management skills for successfully leading and running a laboratory/health institution. I believe this course will increase my job prospects in Nepal significantly. Career goals: After completion of Master’s degree from world renowned WSU, I can easily compete for a senior position in the Pathology Department as a Lab In-charge or as a Healthcare Administrator, Health Service Manager, CEO or Policy Makers in any private or public health related organization like Hospitals, Clinics, Nursing homes, Health insurance organizations, Healthcare associations, Consulting firms, Public health departments, Rehabilitation centers etc. in Nepal. Some of the prospective employers would be Grande International Hospital, Kathmandu, Norvic Hospital, Kathmandu, National Reference Lab, Kathmandu, Kathmandu Model Hospital, Kathmandu, Nepal Mediciti Hospital, Lalitpur, just to name a few. They can pay a salary of up to NPR 80,000 (AU$ 1,012) per month without any hesitation and even higher salary can be negotiated with certain international private laboratories like SRL  Diagnostics  Lab,  Kathmandu. Post-graduates from Nepal can only expect to get around half of that amount i.e. NPR 40,000 (AU$ 506). I am also hoping to work for  the prestigious National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL), Teku, Nepal as a Senior Medical Lab Technologist after I finish this course. The  indicative  annual  fee  for  2018  commencement  of  this  program  is  AU$ 26,000. Additionally I would have to pay for Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) and any other extra expenses as well. I have been granted an educational loan from SBI Bank, Patan, Nepal and the loan has been sanctioned in my name. Furthermore, my father and mother will act as my sponsors for the entire duration of my stay in Australia. I am totally aware of the cost of this program and find it reasonable given the quality of education provided here.I would be a valuable manpower for my country once I finish my Master’s degree from WSU. I would be able to use my skills in the betterment of health sector of my country Nepal. Moreover, coming from a traditional Nepalese family, as a son I would have to take care of my family. My sister is already married and I am the only son in the family. So, it is important that I return to Nepal once I graduate.Being an overseas student on a student visa, I have responsibilities to:•   Satisfy the student visa conditions•   Maintain the overseas student health cover (OSHC) for the period of stay•   Meet the terms of the written agreement with the institution•   Inform the institution if any changes in the residence•   Maintain satisfactory course progress•   Follow the institution’s attendance policy•   Obey the rules and policies of Australian Government•   Maintain the adequate funds for supporting throughout stay and studyI declare that the particulars given above are true and correct in every detail. I understand that incorrect or misleading statement may result in refusal of my admission/student visa application.Sincerely,Anup Sharma
