The Significance of Ring Bearers

“Hobbits really are amazing creatures.” As was once exclaimed by Gandalf the Grey. “As I have said before. You can learn all that there is to know about their ways in a month, and yet after a hundred years they can still surprise you at a pinch.” (Tolkien 82) At approximately three feet six inches tall, Hobbits are fairly stout, and wear no shoes, as their abnormally large feet have leathery soles. They live in hobbit holes, underground homes found in hillsides, downs, and banks. Hobbits live unfettered lives, and abstain from any foolishness like adventures. They can, however, prove to be assets. One hobbit in particular, Bilbo Baggins was chosen with his inquisitive personality to accompany the dwarves as they embarked on a quest to reclaim their treasure. By accident, Bilbo finds a strange golden ring lying on the ground. Several years later, Gandalf decides that the ring is simply too powerful, as it belongs to Sauron, the dark lord. The ring must be destroyed to ensure that Sauron does not regain the power Whom will it be to bear the ring, was the question. The answer is none other then Bilbo’s young cousin, Frodo Baggins. There are many factors that prove why Frodo and his loyal companions are chosen to carry the ring, being not a more powerful race such as elves. Young Frodo does, in fact have the qualities needed to bear the ring. The significance of Frodo being bilbo’s heir is only a small reason. The Hobbit race is also not easily corrupted by the ring, which is an important trait in determining who will be able to to handle something of this sort. There are several other reasons for why Frodo, along with the help of his companions were chosen to embark on a journey of such importance, to destroy something of immense power.
