The Padmavati controversy has been going on for quite a long time now.
From the shoot itself, thismovie has garnered a lot of unwanted attention. Recently, in Noida, toll plazas in the DND flyoverhave been smashed to smithereens by the Karni Sena. In Gujrat, buses have been burned, and roadshave been blocked as a protest against the release of this film, while the Chief Minister says, thatsuch reaction is “natural”.
Issues in Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan have been growingday-by- day as the release date approaches. The release date of this movie had already been delayedonce by Viacom18 Motion Pictures on November 19.There have been prior movies regarding historical figures, but none have garnered such reproach.
The Karni Sena, says that Padmavat hurts their religious sentiments and distorts the facts. It hasbeen claimed by Rajput historians that the story of Queen Padmini has been grotesquely twisted tosuit the needs of the movie. They also claim that the movie is a mock on their culture. Without evengetting to know the truth, the orthodox Sri Rajput Karni Sena deigned the movie to be inappropriate. The exposed mid-riff of the Deepika Padukone in the song- Ghoomar, inflamed the Rajput society’sanger and they delayed the release of the movie. With 12 amendments done to the movie, themovie is finally set to release on 25 January. A BJP politician, Madhavi Bhuta says, after watching themovie, that the allegations have no ground. On the other hand, Gujrat Chief Minister clearly abhorsthe film.
Having started from a rumor about a romantic scene between Ranveer Singh and DeepikaPadukone in the movie, this controversy has escalated rapidly, masking all other issues of thecountry. Many important issues have been put on hold at the national level to clear-up thePadmavati mess. Supreme Court has denied to ban this film and has given it the green signal.Stemming from the orthodox Hindu culture, these rows show how the mindset of the people mustchange.
Truly, as Deepika correctly said, “India has regressed”.
