Over the last couple hundred
years, humans have caused the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere to
skyrocket. There was an IPCC report from 2007 that confirmed with evidence that
the significant increase in the atmosphere of greenhouses gases are because of
humans. The most potent of these greenhouse gases include, carbon dioxide,
nitrous oxide, and methane. Humans have been increasing the amount of carbon
dioxide being released into the atmosphere through the burning of fossil fuels,
whether that be from driving vehicles, to heating and electricity, or even
industry use. The reason that methane gas has been increasing is because of the
massive landfills that we have created and the increase in nitrous oxide has
also been a result of the burning of fossil fuels.


Renewable energies are so
important in discussions of climate science because they are the future. The
non-renewable resources that we use today, like coal and oil, will eventually
run out. Unlike those resources renewable energies will never run out and can
be replenished constantly. Renewable energy sources include solar energy and
wind energy. Renewables are also important because they do not produce
greenhouse gases, so they’re not polluting the environment and releasing
dangerous toxins into the atmosphere. The cost of renewable resources have been
going down and if they continue at this rate renewable energies will easily be the
most sustainable solution for humans, both environmentally and economically. Climate
change mitigation is one of the main reasons why there has been an increasing
demand to renewable energy technologies. Climate change mitigation refers to
trying to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases through the use of new
technologies, renewable energies, and other practices. Renewable energies are
especially important when it comes to mitigations because through the use of
more renewable resources, humans would reduce the amount of greenhouse gases
we’re pumping into the atmosphere, while also reducing the costs of mitigation.
IPCC reports have already found that renewable energy technologies have indeed
made strides in cutting cost along with increasing performance and that the
advantages of such technologies outweigh the disadvantages.

The factors contributing to the rise in sea level
is that the ocean has a giant heat storage capacity and if global temperature
rises, the ocean absorbs a bunch of heat and expands. The greater the volume of
ocean water affected by thermal expansion, the more the seal level will rise.
The other factor is that the rise in temperature causes ice to melt which also
increases the sea level. The melting of the Artic is less important for direct
sea level rise than thermal expansion because most of the increase in seal
level is a result of global warming, which in turn causes thermal expansion of
the ocean. Thermal expansion happens when seawater expands because the
temperature of the water has increased. There is a direct correlation between
the increase in temperature of the atmosphere and the increase in temperature
of our ocean waters and when the temperature of the ocean increases, so too
does the total volume which is what causes the level of water in the ocean to
rise. The melting of the Artic is a good example of a positive feedback
mechanism. The ocean absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere into the water
and as the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere increases, so too does
the temperature of the air and as a result the temperature of the ocean
increases. The oceans ability of removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere
decreases as the temperature increases. It is difficult to predict the exact
amount of sea level rise and the timing of it because of the time lag between
the increase in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere along with the increase in
temperature and its effect on the melting of the ice.

Climate change risk assessment
looks at the direct risk that comes from the climate response to emissions,
along with the risk that come from humans’ effect and climate and then the
future pathway of global emissions. Drought can really hit agriculture and
economies around the world hard. Not all droughts are the same, droughts vary
in duration and intensity. Things like that make it difficult to assess the
impact and risk of drought. Estimating the future risk of how droughts will be
are based on future climate change projections and projections of exposed land
and people, which both have many uncertainties. A lot of these projections
depend on the combination of the rate of emissions along with changes in
precipitation. The future impact that a drought has not only on land and agriculture,
but also on people, depends on a multitude of things. Some of these things
include population change and economic growth.



The administration should not be
able to just remove scientific data from the government websites like they’re
doing and something should be done to put a stop to it. In my personal opinion
it’s not good and to me it looks like the administration is trying to get rid
of certain information for their own benefit. I don’t think what they’re doing
is benefiting the American people, especially removing information on climate.
We already know that there’s a big climate problem and by the administration
deleting information like this, it feels like they’re kind of just brushing
this topic to the side, like they’re trying to make it seem as if the climate
change isn’t important. It also makes me think that this administration is not
looking for a solution to climate change, but instead it is just trying to
shift focus away from it. People should have access to this data and be
permitted to see what was there prior to the Trump administration’s changes.
It’s important that people be able to see this information because climate
change is a real problem that is in need of a solution and through the use of
this information maybe someone will be able to figure out what needs to be
