My career goal is to become a researcher , preferably at aEuropean University. Currently I am completing my BSc degree at the SavitribaiPhule Pune University. I am applying to the Molecular Biology and Biochemistryprogram to pursue a PhD.Currently I have experience with animal cell culture, microbiology, gel electrophoresis, DNA isolation, and PCR. Part of my trainingwas during a 1 month internship post my second year of BSc with Dr. YogeshShouche at the National Centre for Microbial Resources.
I was fortunate to getthis internship because I was the youngest intern in terms of academicexperience there. My experiences during that internship included: microbial culturemaintenance, DNA isolation, PCR, Gel electrophoresis, Genome Sequencing usingSanger’s Sequencer, Genome editing, Nucleotide Blast, Phylogenetic treeconstruction. During my undergraduate work at Savitribai Phule Pune University ,I have been conducting a research project on design and construction of aMicrobial Fuel Cell, where the aim is to use sewage as substrate for growth ofthe isolated electrogenic bacteria and in the process of electricity production, sewage will be utilized and degraded.
This project gave me experience inmicrobial culture handling, biochemical culture characterization and analyticalknowledge in terms of model design and construction. I believe theseexperiences have prepared me to be a productive member of a research team. Most of my course work has been in the area of microbiology, molecular biology and biochemistry, however I have taken some courses in industrialmicrobiology, fermentation technology and bioprocess engineering and immunologywhich provides me holistic knowledge about the subject and gives me an insighton the industrial application of microbial research. I believe this coursewould provide me with the important exposure necessary for developing a good understandingof the subject and that I could in return contribute to the subject matter byconsistent and productive research in industrial as well as academic backgrounds.
Primarily my currentscientific research interests include the broad fields of bioinformatics, microbiome studies, personalized medicine, molecular anthropology, stem celland cancer biology. What I find especially interesting is that apart from thevast opportunities of research individually the aforementioned fields provide alink within the above can be established with bioinformatics being the commontool. However, I also would be interested in research opportunities in proteinbiochemistry, and immunology, since it plays a significant role in altering thegut microbiome.
I have reviewed thefaculty research projects on the course website and know that I would beinterested in exploring possibilities for the projects in the laboratories of.
