Global warming is the increase in average earth’s temperature which has a challenging effect to human society as well as to the surrounding environment. Rising temperature also linked to unstable climatic patterns such as; melting polar ice caps and glaciers. However, different human activities, primarily, burning of fossil fuels can be the main reason for causing global warming. Introduction of renewable energy sources has found to be one of the major measures to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases and thereby global warming. This essay will further discuss to what extent renewable energy sources can minimize global warming by mentioning the positive effects of renewable energy sources particularly economically and environmentally and finally the limitations related to renewable energy sources.

Firstly, renewable energy sources generally relate to the use of natural sources such as, wind, waves, sun and rain which are renewed by natural processes. Because of this, renewable energy sources are more sustainable to use. Renewable energy sources (RES) when replaced with fossil fuel reduce the emission of greenhouse gases significantly which the main reason for global warming. This has a positive effect on the surrounding environment (Owasu & Asumadu-Sarkodie, 2016). RES primarily includes, biomass, hydropower, geothermal, solar, wind and marine energies. For an example; hydropower which is a renewable source of energy use force of energy from moving water to generate electricity. Hydropower is termed as a green source of energy as it does not produce greenhouse gases. In addition, biomass reduce the emission of greenhouse gases, and wind energy reduce the effects of global climatic changes (Owasu & Asumadu-Sarkodie, 2016). Therefore, renewable energy sources generated with natural sources are considered as clean sources of energy reducing greenhouse gas emission, climatic changes and thereby minimize global warming.

Furthermore, economic benefits of renewable energy sources play an important role in regional development. Among the renewable energy technologies, wind power offers utilities with pollution-free electricity. Wind in the form of renewable energy is largely supported by rural communities, as wind farms have to be managed in large spaces open country yards. This enables an economic growth in rural communities with increased job opportunities. Similarly, wind energy development would rural communities and farms self-sufficient economically. For an example; farmers with windy lands can rent out their spaces to wind developers earning thousands of moneys. In Australia, large wind turbines are found cheaper than other renewable energy sources and construction of wind turbines across rural areas brings different economic development across different sectors such as multiple job opportunities locally (Climate Council Australia, 2016). However, renewable energy here as a wind power again encourage the government to use more local services allowing more money to stay in the local community which is by increasing the local economic growth. Other than economic benefits, wind turbines convert some part of heat energy to electrical energy decreasing the rate of earths mean energy and this contribute to the minimizing of global warming (Jangra , 2012).

In addition to the above mentioned benefits, renewable energy sources also have some limitations which affects its sustainability. Primarily the higher cost in using this technology and so need high investments, different regulations and policies of different countries and reduced supply which will not be sufficient to meet the future energy demands (Owasu & Asumadu-Sarkodie, 2016). According to Turkenburg (2018), in comparison with nuclear energy and fossil fuel, energy density and energy intensity is low in renewable sources and require high installation and operational cost for the energy development. In the same way, as another barrier, some of the renewable sources namely; wind, solar and ocean energy sources can also have issues with technical costs. Although most renewable sources are available for free, with these technological and installation issues can make renewable energy sources less demanding (Turkenburg, 2018).

In conclusion, with above mentioned discussions and evidences, renewable energy sources can be one of the most effective way to minimize global warming. Minimizing global warming to will definitely require changes in world production and usage of energy to power the surrounding world. Renewable source converted by natural processes to into energy to power the societies is the major replacement for global warming thereby to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases and fight against climate changes. This can include sources like; solar power, wind energy, hydropower, geothermal heat and bio mass. Although having number of benefits to use renewable energy sources against global warming, limitations still exists. However, the benefits of renewable energy sources outweigh the barriers and to improve the sustainability and availability of renewable energy sources, measures can be taken including; efficient usage of energy and through proper education and awareness about renewable energy sources and their effects.
