The principle of using ones own culture as a means or standards by which to evaluate another group or individual, leading to the view that cultures other than ones own are abnormal or inferior. It is also the tendency to believe that one’s ethnic or cultural group is centrally important, and that all other groups are measured in relation to one’s own .The ethnocentric indivividual will judge other goups relative to his or her own particular ethnic gourp or culture, especially with concern to language, behavior, customs, and religion. These ethnic distinctions and sub-divisions serve to define each ethnicity’s unique cultural identity.
Ethnocentrism leads us to make false assumptions about cultural differences. We are ethnocentric when we use our cultural norms to make generalizations about other peoples’ cultures and customs. Such generalizations — often made without a conscious awareness that we’ve used our culture as a universal yardstick — can be way off base and cause us to misjudge other peoples. Ethnocentrism can lead to cultural misinterpretation and it often distorts communication between human beings.
Technology is not necessary the primary source of sociocultural change but one of the an influence aspect. I think the basic source of social or cultural change is the belief or value of society. Some people mightchoose to follow norm because they believe the custom to be valuable, significant, or valuable. If they believe otherwise, then they will leave the tradition and the culture will change.
Generally one culture will influence members of another culture to change their beliefs. We can conclude that technology will influence a group’s prosperity, and prosperity is typically beloved.
The advantage of technology can lead to a culture having more influence over other cultures. Some culture then to change other culture to become more like them. This is perceived as belief.
Values play key role to ones beliefs. Thus the values will be the beliefs by which one decides to consider whether a norm is worth following.
