This paper will focus on the lack of communication in relationships. Can relationships of any kind flourish with the lack of communication? In the story of “Hills Like White Elephants,” by Ernest Hemingway we see the way that lack of communication has such a great impact in a relationship. In my research, I have concluded that communication is important to the survival of a relationship. Communication allows the persons a chance to discuss relevant issues that may hinder the progression of the relationship. Frequently, couples may have disagreements that will create issues that need to be addressed. This paper will include citing’s from scholars that have researched this topic and what can be accomplished to have couples progress forward from any complications arising from issues of jealousy, disrespect, accusations, infidelity, mistrust and mainly the lack of communication.
Relationships are a privilege to have and withstand. There are many issues that come into relationships. To withstand a healthy relationship, communication is key. A relationship cannot survive with interference from outside entities, such as, friends, family, jealousy, envy, and previous lovers. Those entities can make any relationship break apart. Talking through whatever issues can help improve a damaged relationship or help build a stronger bond in the relationship. Communication helps to understand your partners’ perspective on what they are feeling, what is to be expected within the relationship, as well as how can the relationship continue or if it’s best for both persons to relieve one another to find happiness with someone else.
Differences between men and women can ultimately affect an intimate relationship. Men are more focused on actions and goal oriented and women are more focused upon emotions and are relationship oriented.
